Abstract
This research project addresses the notion of Künstlerroman taking as object of study two novels: Portrait of the Adolescent Artist (1916) by James Joyce and The Tribulations of the Student Törless (1906) by Robert Musil. Its starting point is an introductory chapter that is dedicated to examining the theory that influences the two artist novels, making a journey from the Bildung to the Künstlerroman.
The second chapter concentrates on the presentation of the artistic formation in Joyce and Musil played body and soul by their alter egos Stephen Dedalus and Törless. After the elements that are exposed in the previous chapter, some analytical categories allow to identify the languages of the formation in the pain itself of the hero within the institutions as outside of them. The work closes with a third chapter in which, as a conclusion, the training in the artist's novels or Künstlerroman is expressed.
